Remarkable Makeover for New Lamps: Oh Happy Day!

It’s exciting to start a new decorating project and even more so when it’s almost finished. BUT when the last element to complete the room is missing… it’s time to get inspired! Redecorating my bedroom had been in process for several weeks. I had been taking my time and enjoying every minute but all I needed was to find the perfect pair of lamps for my vanity table. I wasn’t even sure what they would be… but like I always say, “I’ll know it when I see it.” My plan was to find lamps that were simple but wacky, subtle yet make a statement, and be remarkable if possible… even if I have to get creative and makeover some new lamps myself!

I had BIRDS on the brain….because last week I visited my favorite nearby lake. I was trying to get inspired by the local wildlife to see what elements were speaking to me. Nature is a funny thing…sometimes it’s a quiet beautiful backdrop for my thoughts when I’m just in the mood to take a scenic stroll, and other times it shouts at me and demands attention when I’m looking for inspiration!! This seemed to be the day of feathered friends…we saw them everywhere…in the air, on land, and on water! Geese with their goslings and mallards were drifting by. And of course, Mr, Blue the Great Blue Heron was front and center just waiting for lunch.

And, there we were just taking it all in. Inspiration seemed to be everywhere (we were surrounded by it) I had BIRDS on the brain for sure! So, as soon as I got home I started my search… but would I be able to find the perfect bird lamp?

The Contenders

I found many in fact…but I was able to narrow it down to three:

Amazon (paid link)

eBay (paid link)

Although there were qualities of each one of them I really liked, in the end, it was about the size and price. I picked the peacock lamps because they were the right size and the right price… not exactly my style. But, I had an idea!

My Reason Why…

I picked the peacock lamps because they were the right size and price. They were tall enough, 24 inches including the shade. They would fit my space nicely. The price was really reasonable. They were just $59.20 for two lamps on eBay. BUT were they my style?..not really…however, I had a vision! And, with any luck once I painted them a solid color, they would add a unique and fun character to my room!

The Makeover Begins

I used one can of high gloss Krylon spray paint in an off-white shade and some masking tape to cover the cords and light bulb sockets. And, after three coats of beautiful cream spray..step one was complete. All I needed was a new shade. The one it came with was adorable but too small and didn’t allow enough light to shine through, so I picked up two textured shades at Home Depot… now the remarkable makeover was complete!
