My New Handpainted Wallpaper Look: After Reveal
About a month ago I started my quest to achieve a brand new look for my bedroom walls. I was looking for something fun and creative without spending a lot of money. I thought of wallpaper but didn’t want to hassle with the mess or the expense. So, I thought I’d be adventuresome and try painting a mural that would mimic wallpaper. First, I came up with a simple tropical floral design which I sketched out. Second, I then painted the accent wall a spring green color. And lastly, I painted the enlarged flowers six times over the green walls using aqua blue paint. If you want to read about the whole process of my handpainted wallpaper look…click on my blog link.
Now for the Reveal of the Handpainted Wallpaper Look:
The wall colors I chose remind me of a fun vacation in St. Pete’s Beach Florida. So, I stuck with the tropical Floridian theme with vivid colors and bamboo and rattan accents. Vintage ceramic love birds and along with a few peonies leaf clippings complete the illusion of an island resort. My art book collection with its multi-hued spines adds a bit of fun and interest as well as being extremely functional. You can find a variety of great books on Amazon, like here and here (paid links).
I love the idea of having two comfy chairs in the bedroom. Now, my hubby and I can have a quiet conversation or just relax while hiding from the kids. And even though the space is quite small I made sure we had room for both.
When I first came up with the idea of handpainted wallpaper, I had no idea how it would turn out or that I would enjoy it so much! I wanted it to be simple but with a punch and not too busy but still have movement. It’s all those things and more. It really makes a statement as soon as you enter the room. It says “Come in and relax you’re on vacation!”
Are any of your walls singing a hum-drum tune? Are you looking for a summer home project that could liven up a space while creating a one of a kind piece of art? Be bold, be brave be adventurous…try hand painting a wonderful wall design… you might feel like you’re on vacation too!
