How to Think Spring in the Middle of Winter!

Happy New Year to you ALL! It’s good to be back! After an unforeseen hiatus, I am thrilled to be blogging once again! I am very thankful for my readers and supporters! I truly LOVE blogging and I am HAPPY to be writing once more! So, that being said let’s start the first post of 2025!

DREAMING of SPRING
The holidays are over and I am longing for warmer weather. BUT, this time of year I am in that odd spot where my heart has abandoned winter and wants to fly straight toward spring. But, how do you think SPRING in the middle of WINTER… when it’s 5 degrees and gray outside?!

If you are anything like me, on these cold dreary days sometimes I need a little boost! What makes my heart sing like SPRING even in the middle of winter? It’s simple, the three vintage”Bs” of course… books, birds, and beautiful pottery!
BIRDS and BOOKS

I have a collection of botanical guides as well as John James Audubon-illustrated bird books. And oh how these GORGEOUS vintage prints perk me right up! These GIANT volumes have the most beautiful images of birds along with flowering plants. But the best part is, they are not only colorful and creative but informative too! One thing to keep in mind, these huge picture books can be pricey but I found good deals at my used book store and online as well.

When I want to think SUNNY thoughts my collection of vintage McCoy pottery always comes to my rescue! The dreamy pastel colors are the essence of SPRING. I love displaying my double tulip planter with a yellow swallowtail, made in the 1940s. This pottery with all its details is beyond charming! And, to make it even more cheery, I paired it with blooming daffodil bulbs… talk about adding some sunshine!

Winter could be a great time to start or add to your vintage pottery collection. Why not visit your local antique shop or Etsy. I tend to find better deals during the colder months.

It really is easy to “think SPRING” in the middle of winter. Just remember the three vintage “Bs”… books, birds, and beautiful pottery! And, before you know it you will be warming up your space as well as your heart! So let’s take time to enjoy some nature books and illustrations! Let’s display some vintage vessels… perhaps some colorful McCoy! But most importantly, LET’S GET HOMEY!
