How to Make a Faux Christmas Tree Pretty in Paper!
It’s just a few days until Christmas and things are looking very MERRY in my home! I have my nativity sets unwrapped and ready, my glitter houses are glowing, and my faux firs are fun and fabulous. I have my 3 artificial trees displayed this year. It might sound a bit over the top but they are small and unobtrusive, and add just the right pizzazz to my living room, dining room, and sunroom. I have already shared with you one nostalgic natural one, a very vintage one, and this week I’ll show you how to make a faux Christmas tree pretty in paper!
My “pretty in paper” tree was inspired by the movie Elf. If you’ve ever seen the movie then you know how magical paper snowflakes can be! A few years ago I was so in awe with the scenes from that movie that I decided to incorporate handmade decorations for the holidays. And since then, I’ve made countless snowflakes of all shapes and sizes! This year my little dining room tree has colorful crafted ones that go perfectly with the rest of my large 3D ones. They all capture the vintage feel of winter in a cozy home.
Materials & steps
This week I made pastel-colored accordion-folded snowflakes. They are super easy and fun to make. I used a few simple materials: tape, twine, paper, and scissors. First, make accordion folds on half of a standard-sized sheet of paper (4 1/4 x 11 inches). Then tie in the middle with twine, and cut the ends into points. Lastly, unfold one side until it makes a half circle and tape. Do the same for the other side (there are more thorough instructions on YouTube). You can even experiment with the paper. Try using wrapping paper, paper grocery bags, newspaper, old books, or magazines… the sky’s the limit!
A few days before Christmas I have the whole family making paper snowflakes! It has become a family tradition… because at my house Christmas Eve is when the magic happens. After the table is set and I’m waiting for guests we hang a handmade garland of various snowflakes, as well as paper chains around the dining room. It is truly magical. And this year my pretty in paper faux Christmas tree will add just an extra special touch. So, why not give paper decorations a try? It might just become a new tradition in your home as well! Let’s get creative! And, as always… let’s get HOMEY!
And, as Christmas Eve is fast approaching and my final preparations are almost complete, I want to take time to wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a BLESSED NEW YEAR! ENJOY the holidays!
