How to Make a Faux Christmas Tree Fabulous: Add Vintage!

A small vintage white reindeer with a white wreath around its neck is displayed with vintage aqua-blue ceramic flowerpots and vintage silver, blue, and gold glass ornaments.

Last week I shared with you my faux Christmas tree looking amazingly real because of all my natural ornaments. I sort of trick the eye into thinking… if all the elements on the tree are real and come from nature then surely the tree is real too.  This week I am using a faux fir once again, but this time displaying all of my vintage ornaments. I put so many gorgeous old baubles on my small tree that it distracts you from noticing that the pine is actually plastic. It’s the secret to how I make my faux Christmas tree look fabulous… I just add vintage!!

As a rule, I tend to say less is more. But, when it comes to decorating my small plastic pine for Christmas, I say…the MORE the MERRIER!  I have been collecting vintage glass ornaments for over 30 years.  I have quite a few now and love them all! And every year it’s exciting to unwrap them, display them, and ENJOY them!

I’m very blessed to have a few of these delightful delicate objects passed down to me by my grandmother and mother-in-law. Most of them are American-made Shiny Brites from the 1940s and the 1950s. I also have some German and Polish ones too.

To me, vintage and Christmas go hand in hand.  They go together like peanut butter and jelly.  When I think of Christmas I think of some wonderful childhood memories. And all my old-school elements evoke that feeling of childhood for me… so colorful, cheery, and bright!

I tried to think outside the box as well.  I have some really fun retro items I have placed on my tree that aren’t typical ornaments. This year I have added some small white reindeer figurines, as well as angels and birds.  Instead of a star, I got creative and used a 1970s plastic reindeer that got separated from its sleigh!

After I place the last fragile baubles on the branches… oh my goodness… it’s instant happiness for me!  It reminds me of grandma’s house, Christmas candy, and jolly old Santa all rolled into one! OH BOY! Now I’m in a festive mood for sure! So give a vintage tree a try! Make a faux tree or real tree look fabulous by using these one-of-a-kind artful treasures!

I have two amazing trees completely decorated: a nostalgic natural one and this very vintage one… now it’s on to tree number three! Let’s get MERRY and let’s get HOMEY!
