Etsy New Arrivals: Fun Facts About Fun Finds!

A display of vintage finds available on my Homey Blue Heron Etsy Shop: a ceramic white pitcher, a ceramic tureen, a picnic basket, brass bookends and a framed print of a St. Bernard with a child.

Treasure hunting is always on the top of my list these days! Not just for increasing my merchandise quota for my Etsy new arrivals, but because it’s THRILLING! Each time I set out on a search I never know what I’m going to find. And what I find is fascinating! Each piece has such history! I always learn fun facts about fun finds! So the more I learn about an item the more I LOVE it!

Mccoy

Vintage McCoy Pottery is not just fascinating but it’s my first LOVE! So every time I discover a new ceramic beauty that I’ve never seen before… I’m beyond excited! This summer when I came across this small gorgeous blue lamp I was immediately attracted to it. It was unmarked on the bottom and the dealer tag read Shawnee vintage lamp, but I was suspicious! I purchased it and soon began my research. My brain was telling me it could be Shawnee but my heart was saying it has to be a McCoy. I found out it was from the 1940s, has it’s original cord, and it still works. It is beautifully designed with a lovely floral pattern. And it indeed is a McCoy! There are several online sites that agree as well. So for now the mystery is solved.

Royal Copley

When I’m looking for something special that has a more whimsical friendly feel Royal Copley never disappoints me. They are very well known for their farm bird and tropical bird figurines and planters. Royal Copley was popular between 1941 to 1957 and their company was located in Sebring, Ohio. They had at one time 35 women in charge of air-brushing all the colorful designs on each ceramic piece. How amazing is that?!

mount clemens

I literally just discovered a pottery company that was in existence from 1914 through the 1980s. The Mount Clemens Pottery Company is based out of Michigan. They specialized in dinnerware. This teapot is from their Petalware Line. The most unbelievable part is that it was made almost one hundred years ago and it still looks fabulous today! And,I saved the really fun fact for last… the Mount Clemens Pottery Company purchased my favorite McCoy Pottery Company in 1967!

It’s truly the best part of being a collector and seller! So let’s do some research! Let’s be historians! But most importantly… let’s get HOMEY!!
